Liberal ideas of like LGBT acceptance in America are such a joke when it comes to the material realities of the community. Like yeah someone says they don’t hate gay people and wouldn’t descrimate but would they hire me? No. Do they think I’m disgusting. Yes. Just because people say they feel a certain way doesn’t necessarily mean anything where it counts.
Like yes there are middle class sheltered white cis gay people who do reap a lot of the benefits liberals talk about! But at the same time, I know people of just that description who were made homeless by their “accepting” parents. Not to mention, again, jobs. Like sex work is a necessary means to an end for a rather significant portion of LGBT people I know. It makes me want to pull my hair out when straight liberals focus on supporting gay marriage rather than like, a million other factors which very directly effect our ability to survive.
Adding to this explaining how difficult and precarious many lives and situations are to like so many LGBT people I know to my parents last night and my mom was completely stunned. Like she just couldn’t possibly believe it. Not sure how to blow away the smokescreen straight liberal allies have because it seems to be that they think their support of us + gay marriage makes us not oppressed anymore lol
